Health Risks Related to the Water Quality in the Obili Fish Pond

A study aimed at evaluating the health risks of water used for fish farming in Obili pond was carried out January 2021. Mesophilic heterotrophic aerobic bacteria (92.5%) constitute most abundant group bacteria. Escherichia coli is found only entrance contributes 1% bacterial density. protozoan community dominated by coccidia (43%) amoeba (41%). Cryptosporidium parvum dominant species while Entamoeba histolytica dominates 370 oocysts / L 244 cysts L, respectively. Nematodes occupy 2/3 helminth Ascaris (240 eggs L). Diphyllobotrhium latrum shows highest density cestodes (572 presence these pathogenic organisms densities above standards constitutes a real risk use farming. These parasites can directly infect farmers through skin penetration or concentrate integument flesh humans when consumed.
